Series 1
The 10-part TV series takes place in a police station in an urban center somewhere in the Pacific. Mark is a detective. He desperately wants his wife to have a child, but he’s also caught up with Rita, a singer in a bar. A gang of boys are slipping into houses to steal money and they rob a Minister’s house. The search for the boys takes us into the settlements, and the other side of Paradise.
Series 2
A pretty new trainee arriving at the police station; Elizabeth, Mark’s wife, revealing she is HIV positive in the newspaper; a criminal gang running drugs through a small Pacific island country; Kalo and Tony finding a strange package washed up on the beach while out running one morning. Series 3
Love Patrol continues with the discovery of a girl’s body in the undergrowth. Mark from the local police station has to unravel the truth about her death, while a stalker unsettles the whole community, AIDS alert staff continue to battle prejudice and ignorance, and Myra the Ministers wife becomes increasingly unhappy with her home situation. These stories and more take us into the world of Love Patrol 3.
Series 4
Tom and Christine, an apparently successful and happy professional couple, are thrown into personal turmoil after a break-in at their home. Police detective Mark becomes involved, at the same time investigating the mysterious death of a young man, a death that leads the new church pastor to whip up community panic over black magic. Ronald, the senior pastor, is appalled but also suffers ongoing family disruption with son Kalo’s struggle with alcohol. Meanwhile, Lorraine faces her own demons in prison.
Series 5
The police burn down a marijuana plantation on the island and arrest the farmer. Len, who sells the marijuana in town, gets away just in time. The police bring back a box full of marijuana and the CI hopes the story will be front page news, making the police look good. Belinda and Edward have decided to get married no matter what it costs and Simon is trying to keep on the straight and narrow. Until Len turns up and tries to drag him back into a world of guns and crime.
Series 6
A new evangelical pastor seems to be performing miracles; healing the sick, even convincing HIV positive Roslyn to throw away her tablets, and even George, another pastor, that he will walk again.
Pastor Ronald doesn’t believe God works miracles on demand but his congregation is flocking to the new pastor. Money is short for his family but his son has an extraordinary accident that leads to a chance of working overseas. If he can get there. The police are out looking for two young men who have attacked an off duty police woman and they are determined to teach he young thugs a lesson- if they can find them.
Series 7
Harry, a dodgy expat, and Gordon , a corrupt ex-politician, are trying to con the government into paying for the development of a gated community and marina, owned by their company. Harry is also opening a massage parlor fronted by his beautiful girlfriend, Eva, and kalo is painting and decorating the place and glad top have a job, till he finds himself falling in love. In order to finance his lifestyle and his lovely girlfriend, Harry is lending out cash at high interest rates. Paul Lawrence, a brash expat has borrowed a lot from Harry, and doesn't seem to want to pay it back. Harry sends Terry, a petty criminal to frighten Paul, but the attempt to frighten him goes badly wrong for everybody...and Mark finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation.
Series 8
In the eighth and final series of Love Patrol, the government has run out of money and can't pay the public service electricity bills anymore. Gordon, a corrupt ex politician has teamed up with Terry, a small time criminal , and found a way of making money out of trash. Letting other countries trash in and burying it. He can make millions for himself and the government if they let his consignments in without any questions... but what is it they want to get rid of and why are they willing to pay so much? AIDs alert, the local sexual health NGO, is being reviewed. The staff are worried they will face cuts, especially when the reviewer arrives and demands to see their strategic plan and is really not impressed when Lorraine says, nothing changes, men don't want to wear condoms. Kalo has fallen in love with Eva and is working to fix up her shop, but Terry, Gordon's partner and Eva's boyfriend, is jealous and if he finds out what Kalo is really up to something terrible is going to happen. Wan smolbag Theatre receives core funding from the Australian Government, the New Zealand Aid programme and Oxfam; 'working together to provide a positive future for youth'.
